SWANTON, Ohio — Residents of Southern Ohio should be prepared for possible sonic booms on Monday evening. Fighter jets from the 180th Fighter Wing will be conducting air defense exercises designed to simulate a real-world threat scenario.
On Monday, Sept. 9, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., the 180th Fighter Wing will carry out an air defense exercise over Southern Ohio. Residents in and around Hillsboro may see or hear fighter jets flying close to a Civil Air Patrol aircraft. This aircraft will serve as a “Track of Interest” (TOI), which is an aircraft identified as a potential threat.
The exercise is designed to test response and coordination procedures. However, if there is bad weather, the exercise could be moved to a different time, postponed, or canceled.
