FREMONT, Ohio — An Ohio man who spent years recovering from injuries suffered when he and his 18-month-old daughter were struck by an antique tow truck at a Fourth of July parade has won $500,000 on an Ohio Lottery scratch-off ticket.

Duane, whose last name was not released for privacy, purchased the $10 Money Money Money scratch-off after work but did not play it until he got home. When he scratched the ticket and saw the top prize, he did not immediately believe it. “I looked at it for a long time. At first, I thought something was wrong,” he said. He placed the ticket in his safe before taking any further steps.

The years since the accident have been difficult. He suffered multiple heart attacks following the collision, lost his job, and struggled financially. He said he and his family were always grateful simply to have survived.

After mandatory federal and state taxes of 26.75 percent, Duane will receive $366,250. He plans to buy a new vehicle, help close friends, take a family vacation, and invest the remainder.

The winning ticket was purchased at Hy-Miler #2244 at 801 West State Street in Fremont. As of May 21, four top prizes remain in the game.
