PIKETON, Ohio — The Community Action Committee of Pike County will offer a six-week small business class this fall for residents looking to start their own company, the agency said.
The Small Business Class, run through the agency’s Workforce & Business Development Program in partnership with the Ohio State University Small Business Development Center, begins Sept. 22 and runs through Oct. 22, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at OhioMeansJobs Pike County, 941 Market St. in Piketon, according to the agency.
The course covers business planning, marketing, financial projections and funding opportunities, along with setting goals, calculating start-up costs, identifying target customers, pricing and managing records, cash flow and taxes, the agency said.
Seating is limited and costs $15 per person, with a registration deadline of Sept. 18, according to the agency. Eligible participants may also qualify for financial support during the program, including stipends for attending classes and milestone-based incentives such as help with business planning, start-up expenses or certain lending-related costs, the agency said, though incentives are subject to program requirements, funding availability and completion of set milestones.
The class is offered in cooperation with the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, the Pike County Career Technology Center, Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, the Ohio Small Business Development Centers and the U.S. Small Business Administration, according to the agency.
