MCARTHUR, Ohio — The Vinton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 445 calls for service across the county in July, according to a monthly activity log the office posted to Facebook, ranging from traffic stops and animal complaints to burglaries, a report of a person with a gun and a shooting call.
Traffic-related calls made up the largest share of the log, with deputies responding to 89 traffic offenses, 23 reports of traffic jams or blocked roads, and 18 vehicle registration checks, largely concentrated along U.S. 50 and state Route 93 in and around McArthur. Investigative work, listed broadly as “investigate complaint” entries, accounted for 108 calls, the single largest category in the log.
Deputies also responded to 14 domestic complaints, 13 reports of threats or harassment, 13 property damage crashes and eight crashes involving injuries. The log listed five burglaries — in Richland, Clinton, Swan, McArthur and Elk townships — along with three reports of stolen vehicles and eight thefts.
Other calls included a shooting reported July 11 in Madison Township, an assault reported July 7 in Richland Township, a report of a person with a gun July 22 in Vinton Township, a fight reported July 18 in Swan Township, a suicide attempt reported July 17 in Harrison Township and a missing person reported July 28 in Hamden. The office also logged six narcotics complaints and two reports of vandalism spread across the county.
The sheriff’s office, led by Sheriff Ryan Cain, patrols Vinton County’s roughly 415 square miles, the least populous county in Ohio. The monthly log is one of several the office regularly posts to keep residents informed of the volume and nature of calls deputies handle.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
