HILLSBORO, Ohio — Southern State Community College is launching two new certificate programs this month designed to prepare students for entry-level technology jobs, with classes beginning Aug. 24 and registration open now.
The Datacenter Specialist Certificate and the Technical Support Certificate are both offered through the college’s computer science department and can be completed in less than a year, according to the college. The Technical Support Certificate can be finished in a single semester.
The Datacenter Specialist Certificate covers PC hardware, operating systems, server administration and networking fundamentals, and is designed to prepare students for entry-level jobs in data centers and network operations. Coursework aligns with the CompTIA A+ certification and lays groundwork for students who want to pursue Cisco’s CCNA certification afterward, the college said.
The Technical Support Certificate focuses on PC hardware, operating systems, troubleshooting, diagnostics and system configuration, and is aimed at students seeking entry-level computer support positions. It also builds toward CompTIA A+ certification.
Both programs include a professionalism course intended to build career-readiness skills alongside the technical coursework, the college said.
