LUCASVILLE, Ohio — A Lucasville woman died early Thursday after her car was struck head-on by a Jeep on State Route 104 in Scioto County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Portsmouth post of the Highway Patrol received a call about the two-vehicle crash at 3:40 a.m. Thursday near milepost 15 on State Route 104 in Morgan Township, the patrol said in a media release.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2019 Jeep Cherokee was traveling north on State Route 104 when it crossed the center line and struck a southbound 2008 Chevrolet Impala head-on, according to the patrol.

The driver of the Impala, 51-year-old Ruth D. Spencer of Lucasville, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, 28-year-old Abreanna Steele of Waverly, was seriously injured and taken from the scene by EMS, according to the patrol.

The crash remains under investigation, and the patrol said impairment is not suspected as a factor. Further updates are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
