ZALESKI, Ohio — The Zaleski Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual fish fry next month, an event the department is combining with the grand reopening of Zaleski Memorial Park following renovations, according to a Facebook post from the department.

The fish fry and park reopening are set for Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the department said. The $15 fish dinner includes a drink, with sides and desserts available for purchase separately. The event will also include a car, hot rod, bike and buggy show, the department said.
Photos posted with the announcement show an updated pavilion with picnic tables and a flagpole, a newly fenced playground and new restroom facilities at the park.
The department bills the fish dinner as its “world famous” fish fry, an annual fundraiser it has held for years to support its volunteer operation. Proceeds from the event benefit the Zaleski Volunteer Firefighters Association, according to the department.
Zaleski, a village of roughly 230 residents in Vinton County, was platted in 1856 and named for Peter Zaleski, a Polish-born official of the Steubenville and Indiana Railroad. The village was incorporated in 1875 and grew quickly as a center of iron production and timber, anchored by its location near Hope Furnace and the Hocking Canal, before settling into its present size as one of the smallest villages in the Scioto Valley region.
The Zaleski Volunteer Fire Department, based in the village, is staffed entirely by community volunteers.
