CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office asked residents Monday to steer clear of downed power lines and to be patient with response times as deputies worked through a surge of calls tied to storm damage across the county.
The office said in a Facebook post that it was fielding an “extremely high call volume” following the storm and asked people with non-emergency issues to be patient while deputies addressed the damage.
Deputies said they had received several reports of live power lines down in roadways around the county. The sheriff’s office warned drivers who come across downed lines not to drive over them. Instead, the office said, drivers should turn around and call the non-emergency line at 740-474-2176 to report the location.
The National Weather Service had a flood advisory in effect for the area Monday afternoon and issued a flood watch for the region running into Wednesday morning, as thunderstorms moved through central and southern Ohio.
