HILLSBORO, Ohio — A Hillsboro man is facing multiple charges, including tampering with evidence and failure to comply, after a Highland County sheriff’s deputy said he fled from an attempted traffic stop and then doubled back into a driveway along State Route 753 on Wednesday.

A deputy working a call in the 6600 block of State Route 753 saw a vehicle pass at a high rate of speed and driving recklessly, according to the sheriff’s office. When the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, it continued south on State Route 753 before the deputy lost sight of it. A short time later, as the deputy headed back north on State Route 753, the same vehicle pulled out of a driveway, and the deputy was able to stop it, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver was identified as Michael A. Campanaro Sr., 49, of Hillsboro. He was charged with possession of drugs, failure to comply, tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle without a valid license, according to the sheriff’s office.

Separately, a deputy responded Thursday to the 400 block of Limerick Drive after a report of a domestic dispute. The sheriff’s office said an investigation determined it was a verbal argument over personal property, and no charges were filed.

The sheriff’s office also reported the following arrests and citations from Aug. 19-20: Allie R. Roush, 18, of Lynchburg, speeding; David R. Hooley Jr., 34, of Hillsboro, operating a vehicle without a valid license; Teresa L. Hamman, 43, of Hillsboro, speeding; David P. McLister, 65, of Hillsboro, speeding; Patricia A. Garcia, 46, of Hillsboro, speeding; and James E. Tong, 49, of Chillicothe, failure to appear.

The office logged 113 calls for service over the two-day period — 40 for EMS, six for fire and 67 for law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office. The Highland County Jail held 52 inmates, 42 men and 10 women, as of the report.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
