PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Portsmouth City Health Department has launched a new online tool that lets residents report a lost pet within the city limits, the department said in a social media post.
The “Report A Lost Pet” feature is linked from the health department’s website and directs users to a form where they can submit information about a missing animal. The form is available around the clock, but the health department said submissions are checked regularly only during normal business hours.
The new reporting option falls under the health department’s environmental health division, which also runs the city’s animal control program. An animal control officer investigates complaints involving animals within Portsmouth, including dogs running at large, and follows up on reports connected to the city’s rabies-prevention efforts, according to the department.
The Portsmouth City Health Department, headquartered on Washington Street, provides a range of public health services beyond animal control, including immunizations, vital records and environmental health inspections for the city. It maintains national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board, a status the department renewed earlier this month.
