HILLSBORO, Ohio — The Highland County Sheriff’s Office has eliminated Saturday hours at its records division, saying an internal review found almost no one was using the weekend option, and restored its weekday hours to a full 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the office said in a Facebook post.

The change took effect immediately, according to the sheriff’s office. The office said the records division logged fewer than 50 transactions during Saturday hours over the course of 2026, a volume it determined did not justify keeping the office open on weekends.

Residents who cannot make it to the office during the new Monday-through-Friday hours can call the sheriff’s office at (937) 393-1421 and select option 2, and staff said they “will do our best to accommodate you.”

The records division handles background checks, copies of incident and crash reports, and concealed carry permits. Ohio law requires concealed handgun license applications to be processed through the sheriff’s office in the county where the applicant lives, meaning Highland County residents seeking a new or renewed permit must work within the division’s posted hours.

The adjustment follows a temporary cut to the division’s weekday hours earlier this month. On Aug. 7, the sheriff’s office said a records clerk had left for another position within the agency and shortened weekday hours to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until a replacement was hired, with no set end date given at the time. The office’s latest post did not address whether that vacancy has since been filled, though weekday hours have now returned to the standard 8-to-5 schedule.

Randy Sanders has led the Highland County Sheriff’s Office as sheriff since June 2024, following a 40-year law enforcement career that included stints with the Hillsboro Police Department, the Southwest Regional Drug Unit and the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. He most recently served as chief investigator for the Highland County Task Force before taking office.
