GOOD HOPE, Ohio — Members of Wayne Township Fire Rescue gathered Saturday night to honor Chief Wysong, who is stepping away from the department after 24 years of service.
In a Facebook post, the department thanked Chief Wysong for leading “with integrity, passion, and unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe,” saying the chief’s guidance and leadership had left a lasting impact on the department and the firefighters who served alongside him.
Colleagues presented Wysong with a custom wooden plaque bearing the department’s insignia alongside a firefighter’s turnout coat and a chief’s helmet marked with the number 200 — the same designation Fayette County emergency services records assign to the township’s fire station.
Wayne Township Fire Rescue serves Wayne Township, a rural stretch of southeastern Fayette County that had 1,341 residents as of the 2020 census, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The township has no incorporated municipalities; the unincorporated community of Good Hope sits at its center and is home to the department’s station.
“Thank you, Chief Wysong, for your selflessness, devotion, and years of tireless service,” the department said in its post. “We wish you all the very best in your next chapter!”
