ASHVILLE, Ohio — The Village of Ashville’s Public Safety Committee will meet Tuesday to consider a slate of measures including a possible drone purchase, new rules for e-bikes and scooters, and a neighborhood watch program.
The committee is scheduled to convene at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, in a meeting open to the public, according to a village Facebook post. The posted agenda limits public presentations to five minutes each.
Returning to the table is a policy governing scooters and e-bikes, a topic that has drawn attention in small Ohio communities as more residents use the battery-powered vehicles on sidewalks and streets. The committee will also revisit a review of parking along Cherry Street.
New business includes a discussion of launching a neighborhood watch program and the potential purchase of drones. Police and fire departments across Ohio have increasingly turned to drones in recent years for tasks such as search-and-rescue operations, crash reconstruction and monitoring large public events.
Ashville, a village of about 4,500 residents in Pickaway County located roughly 17 miles south of Columbus and 8 miles north of Circleville, is governed by an elected mayor and village council, which includes standing committees such as the Public Safety Committee.
