WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — The Concord-Green Fire Department will open the doors of its Worthington Road station Oct. 3 for a public open house, giving residents a chance to tour the facility, watch a vehicle rescue demonstration and hear the department’s case for building a new one.

The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. at Station 300, 3243 Worthington Road, according to Facebook posts from the department. Visitors will be able to tour the firehouse, climb aboard a fire truck, view equipment displays and get information on the department’s push for a new, safer station.
At 2 p.m., crews will put on an accident rescue tool demonstration using a vehicle donated by Bennett’s Salvage, the department said. The demonstration will show the hydraulic cutting and spreading tools firefighters use to free crash victims from wrecked vehicles.
The growing vendor lineup will include CY Frying and Little Bear Food Truck for food, D&D Drinks, Crumbs Up Cookies and Cakes, Elizabeth Photography, and Signature Grooming and The Doggie Den, which will offer free nail trims for dogs and cats brought to the event. The department said it is also working with a local vendor to provide children with fidget toys to take home, with that vendor to be announced. Department T-shirts and other Concord Green gear will be sold to benefit the volunteer department.
The open house follows weeks of public outreach by the all-volunteer department, which has been asking residents across its coverage area for input on a proposed new fire station. The department has said it wants to build a facility “that the firemen and the community deserve and need” as it works from a single station while routinely providing mutual aid to neighboring departments.
The push for a new building comes as the department has also been shoring up its equipment. It recently secured nearly $131,000 in grants and gifts, including a $50,000 award through the state’s Small County Volunteer Fire Department Grant program, which helped pay for seven new self-contained breathing apparatus units and two portable radios.
Concord-Green Fire Department has served Concord, Green and Perry townships since 1948, providing fire suppression and emergency medical services to the Fayette County community.
