WAVERLY, Ohio — Rumpke Waste & Recycling crews may begin collection routes earlier than usual through the rest of this week as the company adjusts operations ahead of forecast extreme heat, according to a news release.
The change affects customers across the company’s service regions, including the Waverly area, the release said. Rumpke asked residents whose pickup day falls this week to place trash and recycling at the curb the evening before their scheduled service day, rather than waiting until the morning of collection.
“Safety is our top priority,” Rumpke Vice President Jake Rumpke said in a statement. “The high temperatures that are predicted make our job more dangerous. To help protect our team members from heat-related illnesses and ensure customers still receive timely collection, we must adjust our operations.”
Company officials said setting materials out the night before helps prevent missed pickups when start times shift because of weather or traffic. District Manager Kevyn Vasquez said in a statement that earlier starts protect both customers and crews.
“Earlier start times prevent service delays for our customers and protect our team from the high temperatures,” Vasquez said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.”
Rumpke directed residents with questions about whether their collection time will be affected to visit the company’s website.
Rumpke has operated in Ohio for more than 90 years and employs nearly 4,500 workers serving customers in the Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton and Waverly regions, according to the release. The company operates 18 landfills and 16 recycling centers.
