SOUTH BLOOMFIELD, Ohio — The Village of South Bloomfield will spray for mosquitoes the evening of Sept. 8, village officials said, and are asking residents to take precautions to limit exposure to the pesticide.
Spraying is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., according to a village Facebook post. Village officials are urging residents to stay indoors during the spraying, close windows and doors, and keep windows shut for about 30 minutes afterward.
Residents are also asked to bring pets and toys inside and to cover outdoor furniture and grills before spraying begins.
Truck-mounted mosquito spraying is intended to reduce the local adult mosquito population and lower the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile virus. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people with asthma or other respiratory sensitivities are encouraged to stay indoors during spraying, though it is not required for the general public.
South Bloomfield, a Pickaway County village that has been among the fastest-growing in central Ohio since 2000, had a population of 2,143 at the 2020 census.
