CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — A longtime employee of the city’s Department of Public Utilities is being recognized for a decade on the job, the city said in a Facebook post this week.
Terry Hamilton was presented with a 10-year service award for his work with the department, which provides water and sanitary sewer service to Circleville, according to the post. Hamilton spent part of his career reading water meters on foot along Main Street, work the city said gave him an up-close view of the character of individual buildings that’s easy to miss driving by. He now watches the city’s footprint expand from a different vantage point, observing undeveloped fields turn into new neighborhoods as homes are built and streets are paved, the department said.
The Department of Public Utilities, led by Director Brian Frost, operates out of 108 E. Franklin St. and oversees water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment, meter reading and backflow prevention for the city. Circleville’s water system dates to 1810 and now draws from three wells tapping sand and gravel deposits in the Scioto River valley beneath Pickaway County, according to the department.
In its Facebook post, the city said Hamilton is grateful for the opportunity to be part of the community and credited his family — his wife, five daughters, a son, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren — for their support. He said he’s thankful for the chance to share life with them, whether at home, at church or out and about together.
