Graham Melvin “Butch” Roberts, 65, of Washington Court House, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 5:07 a.m. at the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus Ohio. Although he had faced several years of serious health issues, his death was sudden and unexpected.
Graham was born on December 22, 1960, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Graham Melvin and Wilma Gales Smith. Butch spent most of his childhood with his maternal grandparents, Robert and Marjorie Gales and made lifelong friends with his neighbors on John Street. He was a member of the Washington Senior High School class of 1979, and received an associate’s degree from Burton College.
He served as a medic in the United States Army with the 1st Infantry Division, He was stationed in Mannheim, Germany from1980-1987. Butch was always proud of his military service. He worked as a truck driver following his return home
Butch was a member and past deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Washington Court House. Before his health declined, he loved riding motorcycles, camping, collecting Hot Wheels, vacations at Disney World, and simply being around family. He never met a stranger and would give his last dollar to someone in need.
He was preceded in death by his father; his maternal grandparents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Sue Maddux, stepson, Joshua Jones, and siblings, Mark Smith and Denise Watson.
Butch married the love of his life, the former Jill Maddux on July 22, 1989. He leaves his children to cherish his memory, Tyler and Bryan (Holly); grandchildren, Rilyn, Kahlen and Sophia; special nephews and niece: Joshua and Jacob (Tyler), Mckenzie (Justin) and Harrison; brothers-in-law, Craig (Karla) Maddux, Roger (Tracey) Maddux; his mother, Wilma Roberts and siblings, Ona (John) Ragland, Michiko Roberts, Natalie (Steve) Amato, Kimberly Smith, Jeanette Washington, Steve Smith, Rick Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 218 North Hinde Street, Washington Court House, Ohio with Steve Brand, pastor at the church, officiating. A lunch, in the church’s fellowship hall, will be served following the service.
A time of visitation will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
