CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A pursuit reaching speeds topping 100 mph unfolded on U.S. 35 west of Chillicothe Friday evening, according to officials.
Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ross County sheriff’s units became involved with a vehicle shortly after 6:30 p.m. near the Route 52 interchange. The vehicle continued west on U.S. 35, with units reporting speeds fluctuating between roughly 100 and 120 mph as the pursuit rolled through the Jacksonville area.
Units discussed setting up stop sticks ahead of the vehicle and asked for help from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office as the pursuit approached the Ross-Fayette county line. A supervisor repeatedly instructed troopers not to force the vehicle to a stop at those speeds, though units were told they had permission to end the pursuit if the vehicle slowed.
It was not clear from the radio traffic how the pursuit ended or whether anyone was taken into custody.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
