WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — A car crashed into the wall of the Concord-Green Fire Department’s station Saturday afternoon, leaving the volunteer department’s own building damaged and its driver with minor injuries.
Concord-Green firefighters were dispatched to their station at 3243 Worthington Road at 1:41 p.m. for what was initially reported as an accident with injuries, according to a Facebook post from the department. A dispatcher told responding crews that a vehicle had struck the fire station itself.
The driver suffered only minor injuries, the department said.
Photos posted by the department show a dark-colored sedan with its front bumper torn off resting near the station, alongside a marked Fayette County Sheriff’s Office cruiser that responded to the scene. Other images show gouged and dented metal siding along the base of the station’s exterior wall, just beneath a sign identifying the building as home to the Fayette County department.
Concord-Green is an all-volunteer department that operates out of the single Worthington Road station, serving the Concord-Green Township area of Fayette County.
The damage comes as the department has been asking county residents for input on building a new station, citing the age and condition of its current facility. Concord-Green has scheduled a public open house at the Worthington Road station for Oct. 3, when residents will be able to tour the building and view fire equipment on display.
