CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A motorcyclist reached speeds of roughly 90 mph while fleeing from a Ross County sheriff’s deputy near the Bridge Street and High Street area early Saturday, according to officials.
The deputy reported the motorcycle ran a red light near the U.S. 35 interchange shortly after 2:30 a.m. and activated emergency lights. A supervisor almost immediately came on the air and told the deputy not to chase the motorcycle, instructing him to turn off his lights and siren and simply report which direction it went.
The motorcycle continued south on state Route 104 at speeds up to 90 mph with the deputy following well behind without lights or siren. The deputy reported being unable to read the motorcycle’s license plate. Deputies described the bike as a sport motorcycle and indicated it was headed toward the Pike County line, with Pike County units alerted to watch for it.
It was not clear from the radio traffic how the situation was ultimately resolved or whether the rider was identified.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
