CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe police officers and Ross County sheriff’s deputies raised more than $12,000 for children who will shop with a police officer this Christmas at the 48th annual Good Guy/Bad Guy golf outing, the police department said.
UPDATE (Sept. 10, 1:19 p.m.): This story has been updated with additional information from the Chillicothe Police Department.
The Chillicothe Police Department and the Fraternal Order of Police First Capital Lodge No. 59 organized the Sept. 6 outing at Dogwood Hills Golf Course, which drew 21 teams and 84 golfers, including U.S. Rep. David Taylor, according to the department. Proceeds benefit Shop With A Cop, a program that gives local children money to buy holiday gifts for themselves and their families.

Ross County Sheriff’s Office personnel helped with food for the outing, with Major Mike Preston cooking and Deputy Tracy Pinkerton shopping for supplies, the department said. Chillicothe D.A.R.E. and Buffalo Wild Wings also donated food, and G&J Pepsi donated soda and water.
Golfers competed for the chance to win a new Chevy Silverado, donated by Coughlin Chevrolet as a hole-in-one prize, along with other donated prizes displayed at the course’s pavilion, including power tools, coolers and gift baskets, according to photos posted by the department.

Sports Plus donated trophies and All Signs donated sponsorship signage for the holes. Total Media’s “The Morning Hustle with Lori G” and Litter Media helped advertise the outing, the department said.
More than 40 area businesses and elected officials sponsored holes or donated raffle prizes, according to the department, including Ross County Prosecutor Jeffrey Marks, Ross County Common Pleas Judges Mike Ater and Matthew Schmidt, Chillicothe Municipal Court Judges Keith Washburn and Jason Miller, Ross County Sheriff George Lavender, state Rep. Mark Johnson and Chillicothe council member-at-large Julie Preston.
The outing was held at Dogwood Hills Golf Course, a public 18-hole course built in 1991 that sits off U.S. 23 between Chillicothe and Waverly.
The police department also pointed to its partnership with Rock For Tots, Inc., a Chillicothe-based nonprofit that holds its own fundraiser in December. Rock For Tots is a 501(c)(3) organization that gives 100% of the money it raises to dozens of children’s and family-support programs across southern Ohio, including Ross, Pike and Jackson counties. Its annual event typically takes place at the Majestic Theatre in Chillicothe and features live music along with live and silent auctions.
