WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Washington Court House City Council voted at its June 24 meeting to support a bid for a new state tax-incentive designation and to advance a residential development agreement with a national homebuilder.
Council gave first-reading approval to Resolution No. R25-2026, supporting the nomination of U.S. Census Tract 39047926100 in Fayette County for designation as an Ohio Opportunity Zone, and authorizing submission of the resolution to the Ohio Department of Development as part of the state’s Opportunity Zones 2.0 nomination process, according to meeting minutes. The federal Opportunity Zone program offers tax incentives to encourage investment in designated areas.
Council also gave first-reading approval to Resolution No. R26-2026, authorizing the city manager to enter a pre-July 1994 residential community reinvestment area agreement with JLB1 Properties Ltd. and D.R. Horton – Indiana, LLC. JLB1 Properties is the same firm behind the proposed Forest Farm subdivision the city’s planning commission has been reviewing across from the YMCA.
City Manager Joe Denen also told council a police department change-of-command ceremony was scheduled for June 30, with Chief Downing remaining on duty to help with the transition, and reported the department had hired several new employees.
Denen thanked residents and city staff for a series of community events, including the Longest Day downtown event, and announced the Fire in the Sky fireworks display and Freedom Fest 250 celebration planned for the July 4 holiday.
