FRANKFORT, Ohio — Adena Health and the Adena Local School District cut the ribbon Thursday on the Warrior Wellness Center, an $8.7 million facility that combines a community fitness center, medical clinic and pharmacy with school athletic facilities under one roof.
The center, at 169 W. High St., includes a fitness center open to the public, a health clinic offering primary and preventive care along with mental health support, a pharmacy with drive-thru service, and athletic facilities including locker rooms, a training room and an officials’ office. It also has a gymnasium with a walking track and community gathering spaces, according to Adena Health.
The project was funded primarily by a state grant the district was awarded in 2024 through Ohio’s Appalachian Children’s Health Initiative, plus $2.5 million in local funding and $200,000 in donations, Adena Health said. Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Appalachian Children’s Coalition also supported the project.
“This center is an investment in the health, wellness, and future of our students, staff, families, and community,” Dr. Matthew Unger said in a statement.
Starting Oct. 1, the fitness center will be open 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6:30 to 10 p.m. on weekdays, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. The medical clinic will see patients by appointment from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the pharmacy will operate 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Warrior Wellness Center is part of a broader state-funded push to expand school-based health care in Appalachian Ohio. Adena Health opened a similar school-based clinic at Huntington Local Schools last month. Statewide, the initiative funds 27 school-based health centers that are expected to reach nearly 375,000 youth, families and community members, according to Adena Health.
