Anita Rae Moore, of Laurelville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on September 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Anita was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on August 22nd, to Charles “Chub” and Shirley Dean. She dedicated her life to her family, her community, and her passion for gardening. Anita’s door was always open. She was a welcoming spirit who never met a stranger and considered everyone a friend. Whether contributing to her community as a paramedic, providing elder care, or leading a community grant to enhance the local park, Anita modelled generosity and a commitment to all of her neighbors. As a Master Gardener, Anita's yard was a testament to her green thumb, a vibrant sanctuary of wildflowers and vegetables that she happily shared with anyone and everyone. Her infectious laughter and loving spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Anita is survived by her daughters, Amy Moore (Jace Langone) of Port Matilda, Pennsylvania, and Emily Speakman (Matt Shulack) of Laurelville, Ohio; her beloved granddaughter, Rylee Speakman; her brother Brian Dean (Brenda Dean) of Bremen, Ohio, and his children Jordan Dean, Staten Dean, and Matt Markwood (daughter Charlotte); and a wide circle of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Shirley Dean, and her sister, Rita Marie. Anita will be missed by everyone who knew her.
A celebration of Anita's well-lived life will be held at the Shelter House at Ash Cave in Hocking Hills State Park (27291 OH-56, South Bloomingville, OH 43152) on Sunday, September 20th, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM. All who knew her are welcome to attend and share their favorite memories over food and beverages with family and friends.
To celebrate Anita, the family encourages people to consider donating to their favorite children’s charity or local food pantry, to plant their favorite flowers, and to spread kindness, especially in life’s most challenging moments.
