PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The city has set its official trick-or-treat hours for Saturday, Oct. 31, running from 5 to 7 p.m., according to a post from the city.
Portsmouth, the seat of Scioto County and the county’s largest city, sits along the Ohio River and typically coordinates its own citywide trick-or-treat schedule each fall, separate from events held by county agencies and surrounding communities.
The citywide hours come a few days ahead of another Halloween event already planned for the area. The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s Children Services division are hosting a free Trunk-or-Treat on Oct. 28 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Scioto County Job and Family Services building on Court Street, giving families more than one chance to celebrate the holiday safely this year.
As with any trick-or-treat outing, parents are encouraged to accompany younger children, dress them in reflective or well-lit costumes for visibility after dark, and inspect candy before it is eaten.
