PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Pike Water, Inc. has lifted a precautionary boil water advisory that had been in place for customers in two areas of the county, the utility said in a post to its Facebook page.
UPDATE (Sept. 12, 11:22 p.m.): This story has been updated with additional information from Pike Water, Inc.
The advisory had covered homes and businesses along Sugar Run Road between the 985 and 2071 address range, as well as a second area encompassing St. Rt. 335 between mile markers 21410 and 21842 and several streets in the unincorporated community of Omega, including Railroad, Third, Mill, Maple, Main, Pearl and Market streets, according to Pike Water.
Customers in the affected areas had been advised to bring water to a boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food while the advisory was in effect, the utility said.
Pike Water said the advisory had been issued as a precaution and thanked customers for their patience while it worked to confirm the water was safe.
Boil water advisories are typically issued after a drop in water pressure, a line break or other disruption that could allow contaminants to enter the water system, and are lifted once follow-up testing confirms the water is safe.
