CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Enderlin Circle and the Paint Street entrance to Yoctangee Park will close Saturday for the annual Ruck 22 event honoring military veterans, the city said.
The closures will run from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, according to a notice posted by the City of Chillicothe. Enderlin Circle, which curves along the Yoctangee Park lake near the park’s Lion’s Shelter, will be shut down for the length of the event.
Ruck 22 is organized by First Capital Ruck 22, a Chillicothe-based group that has staged the event at Yoctangee Park in past years to raise money and awareness for veterans in crisis. The name draws on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ widely cited estimate that an average of 22 veterans die by suicide each day; ruck marches held under that banner across the country ask participants to walk or march while carrying weighted packs, often 22 pounds or 22 miles, to call attention to the toll. In past years, the Chillicothe event has paired 5-kilometer and 22-kilometer races with a food and music festival at the park.
