PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Pike Water, Inc. has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for customers across a wide swath of the county after a water leak, the utility said in a post to its Facebook page.
The affected areas include Jasper Road, Waldren Hill Road, a stretch of state Route 124 between the 16774 and 10946 address ranges, and the area between the Route 124 intersection and points on state Route 772 and Leeth Creek Road, according to Pike Water. Also under the advisory are Viar Road, Newland Hill Road, Morgans Fork Road, Armstrong Hollow, Auerville Road, Fire Tower Road, Bill Guilkey Drive, Walnut and North streets in Morgantown, Owens Road, Ryan Drive, Brubaker Road, Rainbow Trail Road and Green Ridge Road, the utility said.
Customers in those areas are advised to bring water to a boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food, Pike Water said.
The company said the advisory was issued as a precaution and that affected customers should continue boiling their water until Pike Water announces the advisory has been lifted.
Pike Water apologized for the inconvenience and asked for customers’ patience, saying it would provide an update once the advisory is lifted.
Boil water advisories are typically issued after a water main break or drop in system pressure that could allow contaminants into the distribution system, and are lifted once follow-up water quality testing confirms the supply is safe.
