WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Fayette County commissioners voted Sept. 2 to accept a $1,047,000 bid from Doll Layman Ltd. to build a dewatering building at the county’s Rattlesnake Water Treatment Plant, resolving a contract the board had tabled for further review a week earlier.
Doll Layman, of Tipp City, was the lone bidder on the Rattlesnake Water System Improvements Contract A-1, according to meeting minutes. Commissioners approved the bid on a motion from board member Donald Fleak, seconded by James Garland, with member Tony Anderson absent.
In other business, commissioners voted to renew the county’s health insurance plan with CEBCO for 2027, accepting a 12% rate increase after a presentation from Rob Herron of Herron Financial Group, the minutes said. Human Resources Director Carla Melvin told the board the county has until Dec. 1 to decide whether to continue with CEBCO, and Herron said he plans to present alternative options to commissioners in the coming weeks.
Commissioners also voted to submit a letter of support to the Ohio Department of Transportation’s District 8 office backing state funding for pedestrian safety improvements at the Five Points intersection in Washington Court House, citing documented safety concerns and the project’s potential to improve walkability and connectivity in the area, according to the minutes.
During public comment, resident Janice Vaught raised concerns about deteriorating conditions at the Fayette County Dog Shelter, urging commissioners to address the need for expansion, fencing and additional staffing. Commissioners acknowledged the concerns but took no action, the minutes said.
