CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The American Red Cross has opened an evacuation center for Ross County residents displaced by this weekend’s flash flooding, the Ross County Health District said in a Facebook post.
The shelter is located at 1565 Egypt Pike, the site of the old Unioto High School, according to the health district. Residents seeking more information about the shelter were asked to call the Ross County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number.
The shelter’s opening comes after flash flooding swept through parts of Ross County over the weekend, prompting water rescues and reports of mobile homes being swept from their foundations. Emergency crews, including the Chillicothe VA fire department and several county volunteer fire departments, responded to multiple water rescues as the flooding unfolded.
Health officials did not say Sunday how long the Egypt Pike shelter would remain open or how many people had sought refuge there.
The information contained in this story was obtained from the Ross County Health District.
