WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Fayette County Public Health is unable to process birth or death certificates after an internet outage knocked out the agency’s ability to access its records systems, the health department said Monday.
The agency said in a Facebook post that it is “currently functioning with limited services due to an internet outage” and cannot issue any birth or death records “at this time.” The post did not say when the outage began or when service is expected to return.
Fayette County Public Health normally issues birth and death certificates for $25 apiece from its office at 317 S. Fayette St. in Washington Court House, either in person, by phone or by mail. Birth certificates can be requested there regardless of where in Ohio the birth occurred, while death certificates are available only for deaths that occurred in Fayette County. The agency’s Vital Statistics Division keeps records dating back to 1908, according to the health department.
Fayette County Public Health did not say whether other services, such as its clinics or environmental health programs, were affected by the outage.
