CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The city of Chillicothe, the Ross County Land Bank and Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio are partnering to offer a free series of home repair classes this fall and winter, teaching residents how to handle common household fixes themselves.
The six classes will be split across three Thursday sessions — Oct. 15, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17 — at the Chillicothe & Ross County Library Annex, 40 W. Fifth St., in Room B1, according to the city.
Each date will feature two sessions: an afternoon class from 3 to 4 p.m. and an evening class from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 covers toilet repair and basic electrical work; Nov. 19 covers drywall repair and siding, roofing and gutters; and Dec. 17 covers screen repair and window repair, the city said.
All the classes are free and open to the public, though registration is requested. Residents can sign up by contacting Molly Blair, Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio’s training coordinator, at [email protected] or 740-592-0032, Ext. 111, or by registering online through a link posted with the announcement.
The classes are being offered through Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio’s Home Repair & Care Training Center, a program built around hands-on instruction meant to give homeowners the skills and confidence to maintain their own properties. Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio traces its roots to 1990, when it was founded as the Athens County affiliate of Habitat for Humanity and initially focused on home repair work before later expanding into new home construction.
The Ross County Land Bank, one of the class series’ partners, works to acquire vacant, abandoned and tax-delinquent properties in the county and return them to productive use, with a mission focused on reducing blight, stabilizing neighborhoods and expanding housing opportunities for residents.
