HIGHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — A Hillsboro man and woman face child endangerment charges after a sheriff’s deputy found a small child alone in the roadway in the 12000 block of state Route 506, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to the area Sept. 14 after a report of an unattended child in the road, according to the sheriff’s office. Following an investigation, Taylena K. Hicks, 20, and Elijah L. Cope, 28, both of Hillsboro, were charged with endangering children, the office said.
In a separate case the next day, a Blue Ash man was arrested after leading a sheriff’s deputy on a pursuit through Dodson Township and into the village of Lynchburg, according to the sheriff’s office. A deputy on patrol in Dodson Township saw a man riding a minibike on the roadway without registration and attempted a traffic stop, the office said. The driver fled on the minibike and refused to stop, continuing for several blocks before the pursuit ended in the 300 block of Broadway Street in Lynchburg, the sheriff’s office said. Justin Herzner, 39, was arrested and charged with obstructing official business and prohibited acts, according to the office.
The sheriff’s office also reported a third arrest from the same two-day stretch. A resident in the 12000 block of Cameron Drive reported a disorderly person Sept. 14, and following an investigation, Tabitha D. West, 34, of Greenfield, was charged with persistent disorderly conduct, the office said.
Deputies additionally took a report of identity theft from a resident in the 11000 block of Rowe Road, and separately arrested Devin M. Miller, 21, of Washington Court House, on a probation violation and Amanda M. Maines, 43, of Martinsville, on a failure-to-appear warrant, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office logged 112 calls for service over the two-day span, including 66 law enforcement calls, 40 EMS calls and six fire calls, the office said. The Highland County Jail held 45 inmates as of the report, 35 men and 10 women, according to the office.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
