Barbara Jane McCord

Aug 1, 1936 — Sep 15, 2026

Chillicothe, Ohio

Born on August 1st, 1936, Barbara Jane Newton McCord, at the age of 90, was plucked by the very hand of God from this earth on Tuesday Sept 15, 2026. She was a hard working mother of 4 children Jerry (Betty), Doug (Mary), Diane, Joseph Jr. She was also the Grand Mother of 10 children and the Great Grand Mother of numerous adorable great grand children.

She had numerous friends from her days in high school and from her days as a key punch operator at the former Mead Research facility that she still kept in touch with.

She was also the originator of the phrase “I love you more !” and she meant it. There was a calm, tranquil, unperturbed demeanor about Barbara that was uncanny and unequaled.

She went to Central grade school while her family lived on 8th street. As an elementary school child, she walked to school in the morning and walked home for lunch, walked back to school and then walked home for the day. She never complained about it when telling that story. In 12th grade, as a student at CHS, she worked at Stark’s South End Pharmacy. 3 months after graduation (in 1954) she worked at the former Goodyear Atomic Plant for 5 yrs. Then she worked as a key punch operator for Mead Research for 23 yrs. She also had work stints in South Carolina and Daytona Florida. Then her work life took her to McGraw Hill publishing in Columbus OH. After her work life, she retired to take care of her dear mother back here in Chillicothe OH.

Barbara wanted everyone to know that because of her employment at the atomic plant, that the FBI still has her on file.

I guess that means “don’t mess with me ?” or “don’t get too close, it’s a little hot in here.”

She was always good for a few bucks to the grand kids when they needed it as well as her helping hands that had nothing to do with money. She was the perfect listener.

Barbara would want everyone to share in her love for her Creator, the love for her Church, the love for her family, and in her love for all of you.

God, Our Father, rest her weary body and give peace to her soul.
