PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Scioto County Public Library’s board of trustees approved spending $75,934.22 to install a new metal roof at the library’s New Boston branch, resolving a maintenance issue the board had put off a month earlier for lack of information.

Trustees voted at a June 16 special meeting to accept the bid from Roger Hemming Contractor LLC for the roof replacement, according to board minutes. At the board’s previous meeting on May 19, members had deferred a decision on the New Boston roof, saying they wanted more information from contractors before committing to a project.

The vote follows an April 21 decision by the board to approve up to $32,000 for flooring replacement at the library’s Wheelersburg branch, another facility upgrade approved this year.

Also at the June 16 meeting, trustees voted to open a Request for Proposal process for the library’s banking services, directing Fiscal Officer Travis McNeilan to solicit sealed bids from financial institutions for handling the library’s public deposits. Under the schedule set by the board, banks have until Aug. 7 to submit proposals, with a new banking agreement set to begin Oct. 1, according to the RFP.
