LUCASVILLE, Ohio — All three Valley Local School District buildings have earned Project ADAM Heart Safe certification after passing check-offs this week, the district announced, giving each school trained cardiac emergency response teams and formal plans for responding to sudden cardiac arrest.
Valley Elementary School, Valley Middle School and Valley High School each completed the certification process through Project ADAM, a Nationwide Children’s Hospital-affiliated program that works with schools to prepare staff for cardiac emergencies. The designation means each building now has a trained cardiac emergency response team, an established emergency action plan and staff prepared to respond quickly if a student, staff member or visitor experiences sudden cardiac arrest, according to the district.
District officials credited staff members who took part in training and drills for making the certification possible, saying their preparation helps make the schools safer for students, families and visitors. The district singled out school nurse Chrissy Romanello for bringing the Project ADAM program to Valley Local.
Project ADAM certifies schools nationwide that meet standards for cardiac emergency preparedness, including staff CPR and AED training, practice drills and a written response plan. Sudden cardiac arrest can strike without warning, and survival often depends on how quickly bystanders can begin CPR and use an automated external defibrillator.
