HILLSBORO, Ohio — The Highland County Senior Citizens Center is holding its annual Senior Expo today at a new location, drawing dozens of vendors and offering a free resource fair for older adults and their caregivers from across south-central Ohio.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Patriot Center at Southern State Community College, 100 Hobart Drive in Hillsboro, according to the Highland County Health Department, which is among the organizations taking part. It is the Expo’s first year at the venue, a 25,000-square-foot multipurpose facility that the college built in 2005 and that seats up to 2,500 people for commencement ceremonies, concerts and other large gatherings.

More than 60 businesses and organizations from Highland, Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette, Pike and Ross counties are expected to set up booths with resources for seniors and the people who care for them, organizers said. Southern Hills Community Bank is the presenting sponsor.
Admission is free. The day includes live music, a chair volleyball game open to players 18 and older, a vendor pumpkin-decorating contest and a costume contest for guests with prizes for the top three entries, organizers said. Lunch will be available for purchase for anyone who doesn’t want to wait for the free offerings.
Bingo begins at approximately 2:20 p.m., also restricted to adults 18 and older. The first bingo card is free, with additional cards available for purchase, and organizers said they expect to give away more than 60 prizes over the course of the session.
The Highland County Senior Citizens Center, a nonprofit also known as Highland Seniors, has served the county since 1970. Its mission is to help people age 50 and older stay active and engaged in the community, and it runs daily lunch, fitness and home-delivered meal programs out of its facility on Muntz Street in Hillsboro. The Highland County Health Department, which has operated in the county since 1920, also provides a range of public health and clinical services to residents.
