HILLSBORO, Ohio — The Highland County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help identifying the rightful owner of two items of property sitting in its custody — a four-wheeler and an air compressor — before a claim deadline next month.

In a notice posted to its Facebook page, the sheriff’s office said it is in possession of a 2003 Yamaha Raptor YFM660R four-wheeler and a Grimmer-Schmidt air compressor equipped with a Ford engine. The notice did not say how or when the items came into the office’s custody.

Anyone who believes they have a legal claim to either item is asked to contact Lt. Vincent Antinore at the sheriff’s office, 937-393-1421, and be prepared to provide proof of ownership.

The sheriff’s office set a claim deadline of Nov. 9, 2026. Under Ohio law, law enforcement agencies holding unclaimed property must make a reasonable effort to locate the rightful owner, including public notice, before the holding period expires. Property that remains unclaimed can ultimately be retained for agency use, sold at public auction or otherwise disposed of under state law governing property held by law enforcement.
