CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Crews were dispatched to a multi-vehicle crash with injuries in the 2100 block of Western Avenue shortly after 5:15 p.m. Thursday, according to initial emergency radio traffic.
Dispatchers reported a crash involving four to five vehicles near the U.S. 50 ramp, sending Ross County EMS squads along with a mutual-aid squad from the city of Chillicothe. Crews requested an additional squad after reporting multiple patients at the scene, and radio traffic indicated small children were in one of the involved vehicles.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers also responded. On the air, crews described at least two vehicles with heavy front-end damage and said they were working to triage several patients as units arrived.
Radio traffic also referenced a gray Nissan sedan whose driver was described as swerving across the roadway before striking another vehicle and continuing to drive; units reported the driver may have been impaired and said the vehicle ultimately stopped nearby. It was not immediately clear whether charges would be filed.
Crews asked Chillicothe police to help manage traffic as vehicles backed up through the area, and units coordinated staging and treatment at the scene using a designated fire-ground channel as the response grew. Radio traffic did not indicate any fatalities.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
