PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Portsmouth City Health Department plans to spray for mosquitoes Tuesday evening in the Sciotoville neighborhood and parts of downtown, the department said in a Facebook post.
Crews will fog the area around Farney Avenue, Woodland Avenue, Marshall Street and Price Street in Sciotoville, as well as Grant Street, Market Street and the area around Portsmouth High School’s Trojan Coliseum, from about 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 13, according to the health department.
The department is advising anyone with chronic breathing problems to turn off their air conditioner or close their windows while crews are working in their area.
Ohio health departments routinely run seasonal mosquito control programs using truck-mounted foggers that disperse a low-volume pesticide mist, typically in the evening when mosquitoes are most active. The programs are aimed at curbing populations of mosquitoes that can carry West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne illnesses.
Residents with questions or concerns can contact the Portsmouth City Health Department at (740) 353-5153.
