Joshua Cole Berry, 25, of West Portsmouth, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, October 10, 2026. He was born January 3, 2001, in Portsmouth, to Tom and Amy Murray Berry.

Josh was a 2019 graduate of Portsmouth West High School, where he was salutatorian of his class. A gifted athlete, he was a state champion powerlifter known for his strength, determination, and dedication. Above all, Josh was a humble, down-to-earth man who never let his accomplishments define who he was. His incredible work ethic was evident from a young age when, at just 14 years old, he started Berry Lawncare and built it into the successful business it is today.

Josh was a devoted husband, loving father, and dedicated family man who worked hard to provide for those he loved. He took great pride in the life he was building with his high school sweetheart, Cassie, and their son, Lane. But above all else, Josh loved Jesus Christ. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he had a true passion for sharing the love of Christ with others. Josh wanted everyone he met to experience the same love, hope, and salvation he had found in Jesus. His faith was unwavering, his heart was genuine, and the impact he made on others will never be forgotten. Though his time on earth was far too short, the seeds of faith and love he planted will continue to grow for generations to come.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Dale and Janet Berry.

Along with his parents, Josh is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Cassie Rose Schaefer Berry; his beloved son, Lane Joseph Berry; two brothers, John (Lynlee) Berry and Jody Berry; a sister, Tomi Berry (Trace Pistole); two nieces, Remi and Colbie Berry; his grandparents, Bruce (Donna) Malone and Danny (Brenda) Murray; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM Monday October 19, 2026 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Portsmouth, with Father Smith officiating. Interment will follow in McKendree Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family kindly invites everyone to come as they are and dress comfortably, as formal attire is not necessary. Your presence and the love you share for Josh are what matter most.
