NEW BOSTON, Ohio — A boulder tumbled down a hillside and onto Gallia Street in New Boston early Wednesday, closing a lane of the heavily traveled roadway and snarling the morning commute.
The New Boston Police Department said in a Facebook post that a rock slide left Gallia Street down to one lane at the 3600 block. The department asked drivers to expect delays and said crews were working to clear the debris as quickly as possible.

Photos posted by the department show a massive sandstone boulder resting along the roadway’s shoulder, with a second slab of similar size still perched on the hillside nearby. Officers were seen at the scene assessing the slide as traffic moved past in the open lane.
Gallia Street carries State Route 52 through New Boston, a commercial and residential corridor in Scioto County that sees steady traffic throughout the day, making the lane closure a significant disruption for commuters heading into and out of the village.
The department did not report any injuries or damage to vehicles connected to the slide.
