ADELPHI, Ohio — The village of Adelphi will hold trick-or-treat this year on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., according to a notice posted by the village.

Village officials are also inviting residents to the Adelphi Opera House during the trick-or-treat window. The historic building on Main Street will have a backdrop set up for photos, a public restroom available and popcorn for children, with costumes welcome.

The village is also asking homeowners who hand out candy but don’t typically get many trick-or-treaters at their door to instead bring their treats to the Opera House and hand them out there, helping concentrate the evening’s activity around the downtown building.

Adelphi, a village of about 320 residents in Ross County, was laid out in 1804 by two brothers and takes its name from the Greek word for “brothers.” It was incorporated as a village in 1838. The community is also known as the boyhood home of John Purdue, the Indiana businessman whose 1869 gift to the state of Indiana helped establish Purdue University.
