WAVERLY, Ohio — The Pike County Department of Job and Family Services is accepting applications for one-time disaster assistance to help eligible households recover from losses tied to this fall’s flooding, the agency said in a Facebook post.
The assistance is offered through the agency’s Prevention, Retention and Contingency program, which opens supplemental disaster funding once a county has been placed under a state of emergency by the governor. Gov. Mike DeWine issued that declaration for Pike County and 18 other Ohio counties on Sept. 22 after severe storms and flash flooding struck much of southern and central Ohio.
To qualify, applicants must live in Pike County and have a household that includes a minor child or a pregnant woman who is at least six months along, according to the agency. Household income must fall at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, and applicants must submit a PRC application along with documentation of their household income from the past 30 days.
The agency said additional verification or eligibility requirements may apply depending on individual circumstances, and it encouraged residents who believe they may qualify to contact its office directly for details on the application process.
Pike County Job and Family Services administers public assistance programs including Ohio Works First, food assistance and Medicaid in addition to the disaster relief program. The office is located at 230 Waverly Plaza, Suite 700, in Waverly and can be reached at 740-947-2171 or toll-free at 800-646-2165, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
