PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Portsmouth City Health Department will hand out treats at a Kids Safe Trick or Treat event Wednesday evening, giving families an indoor, supervised alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating.
The event runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at James Dickey Post 23 American Legion, 705 Court St. in Portsmouth, according to a Facebook post from the health department. The gathering is hosted by local radio stations Mix 99.3 and The Breeze 107.5, with the health department among the organizations and vendors handing out candy.
The health department said in its post that staff members will be dressed as minions for the occasion and encouraged families to stop by and say hello.
The Portsmouth City Health Department’s stated mission is to prevent disease, promote health and safety, and respond to public health emergencies for city residents. The department also runs environmental health, public health nursing and primary care programs, including immunizations and food-service inspections, from its office on Washington Street.
No boil advisory, closure or other health notice was tied to Wednesday’s event; the health department’s participation is part of its regular community outreach.
