WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Jefferson Township Fire & EMS personnel got a behind-the-scenes look this week at the new hospital Adena Health is building in Washington Court House, touring the facility ahead of an opening the department said is targeted for March.

The department said in a Facebook post that the walkthrough gave firefighters and EMS staff an early look at the replacement hospital, which is rising on the system’s existing Columbus Avenue campus. “This is an exciting time for Fayette County,” the department said, calling the facility “a very nice facility.”

Adena Health broke ground on the 65,000-square-foot critical access hospital on June 11, 2025, after several years of planning. The new 25-bed facility is being built on the site of the current Adena Fayette Medical Center, and the system has said the existing hospital will stay fully operational throughout construction, with no interruption to patient care.

According to Adena Health, the new hospital will include private emergency and inpatient rooms, expanded imaging and diagnostics such as MRI, cardiac CT and nuclear medicine, and enhanced specialty care in orthopedics, oncology, pulmonology and non-delivery OB-GYN. The facility is also designed to support robotic-assisted surgeries, along with an on-site pharmacy, upgraded surgical suites, a progressive care unit, a chapel and expanded family lounges and dining areas.

At the project’s groundbreaking, Adena Health President and CEO Jeff Graham said the hospital “reflects our belief that rural communities deserve innovative care and long-term investment.” The system has said the building is on track for substantial completion in 2026, followed by technology installation and interior finishing ahead of a 2027 opening.

Jefferson Township Fire & EMS thanked Adena staff who led the tour, including Tracy Judge, director of the emergency department; Carolyn Wallen, director of operations; and Ron Butcher, director of maintenance, for arranging the visit.
