CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office is collecting non-perishable food donations through Nov. 20 as part of its second annual food drive benefiting the Community Cupboards of Pickaway County, the office said in a Facebook post.
Donation boxes are set up in the lobby of the sheriff’s office administration building and in the lobby of the Pickaway County Jail, both in Circleville, for residents who wish to contribute. The drive began Monday and runs through Nov. 20.
The sheriff’s office described the campaign as “another year of friendly competition,” a reference to local agencies and organizations that run parallel collection efforts during the county’s broader fall food-drive season.
The donations support the Community Cupboards of Pickaway County, a volunteer-run network of roughly two dozen donation boxes placed around the county that offer free, no-questions-asked access to non-perishable food, toiletries and other household staples. The program, coordinated through the Pickaway County Community Foundation, does not require visitors to apply, register or provide any personal information to take items — its boxes operate on a “take what you need, leave what you can” basis.
The Community Foundation’s broader food-insecurity network also connects residents with eight fixed food pantries, four hot-meal sites and monthly fresh produce distributions at six locations across the county, according to the foundation.
Anyone wishing to donate can drop off non-perishable food items at either sheriff’s office lobby location during business hours before the Nov. 20 deadline.
