WAVERLY, Ohio — A traffic crash shut down State Route 220 between Fish & Game Road and Pleasant Hill Road on Wednesday morning, according to the Waverly Fire Department.

The department said the closure began at 8 a.m. Drivers in the area are being asked to detour via State Route 552 until the road reopens.

State Route 220 runs entirely within Pike County, connecting rural stretches of the county to U.S. 23 at its eastern terminus in Waverly. Fish & Game Road, about four miles outside Waverly, intersects the highway in a largely rural stretch that has seen periodic maintenance and construction closures in recent years.

No further details on the crash, including the extent of any injuries, were immediately available. The Waverly Fire Department has not said when the highway is expected to reopen.
