COMMERCIAL POINT, Ohio — The Scioto Township Fire Department will host its annual “Pancakes with Santa” event and toy drive next month, inviting Pickaway County families to Station 400 for a free pancake breakfast and a visit with Santa Claus.

The event is set for 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the station, 440 Walker Road in Commercial Point, the department said in a Facebook post. Firefighters plan to serve pancakes while Santa Claus greets children, and the department is asking attendees to bring an unwrapped toy to support its annual toy drive for local children in need.

The breakfast doubles as an open house, giving residents a chance to see the station’s apparatus and meet the crews who serve the township. The event flier also carries the logo of the International Association of Fire Fighters, the firefighters’ labor union, alongside the department’s own patch marking its founding in 1968.

Scioto Township Fire Department operates out of its station at 440 Walker Road in Commercial Point with 15 firefighters, an assistant fire chief and a fire chief, according to the department. The department runs on a three-platoon schedule that has kept four firefighters on duty around the clock, 365 days a year, since 1996, and it operates two medic units, Medic 401 and Medic 402.
